What is Suicide?

Suicide, or the intentional taking of one’s own life, is considered a public health crisis.

It is the third leading cause of death for adolescents and the 11th leading cause of death across the lifespan.

Missouri consistently ranks higher than the national average for suicide rates.

In 2020, 25% of college students, 10% of high school students, and 12% of middle school students experienced serious suicidal ideation.

These numbers are consistently higher for minority and marginalized youth.
